From the very beginning, the journey to this moment has been unexpected and inspiring. What started as a lighthearted film about Sanibel’s unique shelling culture quickly shifted when Hurricane Ian made landfall. Overnight, the story transformed into something deeper, capturing not only the destruction of the storm but also the resilience and determination of the island’s people.

Filming stretched across more than two years, documenting both the challenges and the progress of recovery. The project became a community effort, with Sanibel residents opening their homes, sharing personal stories, and allowing us to see their struggles and their strength firsthand. The result is a film that reflects the true spirit of Sanibel: a place defined not only by its natural beauty but by the bonds of the people who call it home.

Sanibel Movie Director James Winterstern and Producer Kevan Rayden accept Best Florida Film at the Naples International Film Festival.

When Sanibel premiered in Naples, just across the bridge from the island, it felt like a homecoming. The film was honored as Best Florida Film at the Naples International Film Festival, a recognition that meant so much to our team and to the community that made the project possible. Later, during our Florida theatrical run, ticket sales helped support the American Red Cross and FISH of Sanibel-Captiva, ensuring that the story we told also gave back to the island that inspired it.

Now, with Sanibel available on Apple TV and Amazon, we are thrilled to share the story with audiences everywhere. Whether you are a lifelong visitor to the island, a resident rebuilding after the storm, or someone discovering Sanibel for the first time, we hope this film gives you a sense of connection and a reminder of the strength that can come from community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
